19 September 2025 |
Term 2 is drawing to a close. It has been a term full of accomplishments and celebrations. We have enjoyed many community events, with P&C Family Movie Night, Mother’s Day Stall and Colour Fun Run. As well as school events, such as, Under 8’s morning, Junior and Senior Athletics and a range of excursions and incursions.
I would like to wish you all an enjoyable winter holiday. I hope you have time to rest, relax and recharge with your family and friends. See you in Term 3.
Monty’s Colour Fun Run - 13 June.
I would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to our school community for their efforts with fundraising for our colour fun run last Friday, you have raised $33,905. This has been of great assistance in helping to fund our new playground.
Fun was definitely the order of the afternoon, as students enjoyed their colour run, a range of games and sliming staff. It is amazing how far slime spreads; it was cold and gooey and a great deal of fun.
Our playground development is progressing well. Today has been a hive of activity with the concrete trucks pouring our new pathways. The foundations and new drainage should improve the play surface and run-off into the eating/line-up area two. Garden beds are taking shape and the landscapers are preparing for the arrival of a shade structure and play equipment. Please see the attached the landscape/playground plan for the overall design picture.
P&C Soccer Goals
Thank you to the P&C for the donation of new sturdy soccer goals for the lower oval. They are in place and the students love them.

School Cleaners’ Day
Crazy Hair Day
Next Friday 27 June is ‘Crazy Hair Day’, a P&C Year 6 Graduation Fundraiser. Students can try out crazy hairdos for a gold coin donation. Students will still need to wear school uniforms and be sun safe with hats during play time, so the challenge is to find a crazy hairdo that works with school hats. Have fun! Here a few ideas.
School Assembly – Student Awards
Our school assemblies give an opportunity to celebrate learning and share school community messages.
Our Student Awards are given to students who have demonstrated one of our Tingalpa State School Values and is shared each fortnight at the school assembly – 2:30pm in the hall.
Our CARE values are:

Respect – Respect people, property and the environment
Effort – Do your best and be responsible for your actions
This fortnight the focus value is - Cooperation and Attitude
Kind regards,
Donna
What a Term!
It’s been a busy and exciting term filled with learning and many memorable moments across the school. From whole-school events to classroom-based activities, it's been great to see so many students participating and making the most of the opportunities on offer.
Thank you to our amazing parent and community volunteers throughout the term. Your time, energy, and support play such an important role in enriching the experiences of our students and making our school such a positive and inclusive place.
As we wrap up Term 2, I want to wish everyone a safe, restful, and happy winter break!
Report Cards
Report Cards will be emailed home on Tuesday 24 June 2025. Emailing report cards has a significant impact on the environmental footprint of the school by reducing printing and paper usage.
To ensure that parents/carers receive their child’s report card we need to update family contact details. If your contact details have changed, please contact the school office. Where students reside in two homes, it is important that all family members have the correct information listed with the school, so both parents/carers will receive a report card via email.
To ensure you receive your child’s report card, please add the following email to your safe senders list so the report card email isn’t sent to your Junk folder.

Queensland Cricket Visit – Years 4 to 6
On Tuesday 17 June, students in Years 4 to 6 enjoyed a series of engaging cricket lessons facilitated by Queensland Cricket. Six aspiring cricket coaches led dynamic sessions, helping students build skills, teamwork, and confidence in a supportive environment.
This event is part of our broader GALA Day program, which provides students with enriching sporting opportunities throughout the year.
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Queensland Cricket for partnering with our school to offer this fantastic opportunity for our students.
Thank you also to all the teachers who made time in their busy schedules to supervise the sessions, and a special thank you to Lisa Leclerc and Jo Lovejoy for their outstanding support of our students on the day.
Students thoroughly enjoyed the day, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship, cooperation, and encouragement towards their peers. It was fantastic to see so many students giving their best effort, trying new skills, and showing respect to both the coaches and each other.

"We loved the Queensland Cricket visit! The games were fun, the activities were engaging, and everyone got involved. The coaches were kind, helpful, and inclusive – they adapted the activities for different skill levels and gave extra support to students who weren’t feeling confident. They really paid attention to everyone. We especially enjoyed playing Diamond Cricket – and some of us had fun aiming our shots at Mrs B!” Quote from 5/6A for Queensland Cricket
Parade Reminder
We’d like to inform families of a small but important change to the structure of our fortnightly parade.
From now on, class presentations and student awards will occur earlier in the program, taking place immediately after the following opening elements:
- Acknowledgement to Country
- Australian and French National Anthems
- Jandai Language Vocabulary
This change ensures students are celebrated early, supporting greater focus and engagement from all.
Please adjust your arrival times accordingly so you don’t miss the chance to celebrate your child’s achievements.
Additional reminders for Week 10’s parade:
- The Choir will be performing.
- Athletics Age Champions will be presented with their awards.
Monty's Colour Fun Run – A Splash of Fun and Fundraising!
Our school came alive with colour, energy, and excitement during the Monty's Colour Fun Run! Students, staff, and families all got involved in this much-loved event — running, laughing, and getting covered in a rainbow of colour as they made their way through the course.
The Fun Run was not only a joyful celebration of community spirit, but also a fantastic fundraiser, supporting our ongoing efforts to enhance student resources and experiences.
A massive thank you to:
- All the students and families who enthusiastically supported the fundraiser — your generosity and participation made a real difference!
- The staff who volunteered to be slimed — your bravery and sense of fun created unforgettable moments for the students!
- Every staff member and volunteer who helped with setup, colour stations, supervision, and pack-up — your efforts ensured the day ran smoothly.
- And a huge thank you to Lisa Leclerc for her outstanding organisation of the entire event. From coordinating logistics to communicating with families about participation and fundraising, her hard work and dedication were instrumental in making the day such a success.
We are also incredibly proud of our students, who demonstrated exceptional behaviour, teamwork, and school spirit throughout the day. Their positivity and respect made it a safe, enjoyable event for everyone involved.
For families who opted for prizes, these will be delivered early in Term 3. Prizes will be sorted and distributed by the school once they arrive.
Monty's Colour Fun Run was a fantastic celebration of fun, fitness, and community — and we can’t wait to do it all again next year!

HEAD OF DEPARTMENT - CURRICULUM - Elise Debenham

As we reach the end of another busy and successful term, it is amazing to look back at all the wonderful work that we do together at Tingalpa State School. This term has been filled with incredible learning, growth, and memorable experiences for our students. From classroom discoveries to engaging excursions, the enthusiasm and curiosity of our learners have truly shone through.
As you read this newsletter this evening, I am heading off with our Readers Cup students (Alice, Max, Georgie, Collette and Oliva), to compete at Manly State School. I am beyond proud of the way these students have independently read multiple texts, compiled their own questions and met fortnightly to quiz one another.
I am proud of how all of our students have embraced every opportunity with energy and determination. None of this would be possible without our amazing teachers and support staff and your partnership in their learning journey.
I would like to wish all of our families a restful and safe break, and I look forward to welcoming everyone back next term, refreshed and ready for more inspiring learning ahead!
PJ Day – Friday 25 July
Our Student Council team is excited to announce that on Friday 25 July, we will be holding a free dress day to coincide with National Pyjama Day.
For over 15 years, supporters across Australia have worn their favourite PJs on National Pyjama Day, uniting to raise crucial funds and awareness for children in foster care. Every dollar raised supports The Pyjama Foundation’s Love of Learning Program, helping kids in care, build brighter futures. The Love of Learning Program is the only service of its kind supporting children in care with evidence-based literacy and numeracy programs in the out-of-school environment in Australia.
Volunteers, known as ‘Pyjama Angels’, are screened, trained, recruited, and thoughtfully matched with a child in care. Together, they spend an hour a week reading books aloud, playing educational games and engaging in fun activities. A Pyjama Angel's role is to provide consistent love and support, and most importantly, instil a love of learning in children. Pyjama Angels give children in care the chance to find their wings and reach their full potential, despite a fragile start.
So, put on your PJ’s and help us to raise vital funds to make a difference in foster children’s lives!!
On Friday 25 July, students will be able to wear their pyjamas to school for the day. We ask that students bring a gold coin donation to support this amazing foundation.
Normal school ‘free dress day’ rules apply:
- Students must wear their enclosed school shoes and school hat.
- Pyjamas must be appropriate for school and sun safe.
- Students are not allowed to bring cuddly toys with them on the day.
Please ensure all clothing is labelled.
Creative Dance
Our dance program, conducted by Creative Dance Industries will commence on Monday 14 July 2025. Our students have always loved working with the team from Creative Dance Industries and we look forward to the culminating concerts at the end of the program.
Creative Dance Industries delivers dance lessons aligned with the Australian Curriculum, for all students from Prep to Year 6. This program helps students develop dance techniques. The innovative program includes both traditional and modern cultural dance that is motivating and energetic. Dance is a compulsory subject within the Australian Curriculum and teachers are required to assess students in this area.
Creative Dance Industries has generously offered to deliver two free trial lessons, in which all students will participate and be assessed by their class teacher. After this, students who do not participate will be supervised by a member of staff while the remainder of the class, and the class teacher attend the dance program.
The dance program will run for 10 consecutive Mondays from Monday 14 July to Monday 15 September 2025.
Please make sure that payment and consent are made via QParents by Monday 14 July.

French Bilingual Puppet Show
Next term, we will welcome back Carrousel theatre to our school with a new bilingual puppet show ‘Le livre de la jungle’.
This incursion will be held on Tuesday 29July for our Prep to Year 3 French Bilingual Program students.
An email and QParents notification will be sent to families this week.
Last week was moderation week, a week during which we meet with all the teams and get to see the culmination of the term's work. It is always fantastic to see the results of projects that we discussed during our planning sessions and that we saw come together throughout the term.
I was particularly impressed by some of the writing done in Year 2. Students studied information texts on animals and created a poster on ‘la girafe’. Students had to use specific vocabulary and work on writing grammatically correct sentences.

The Year 4s created some ‘Nanas’ inspired by the work of Nikki de St Phale, a French artist they discovered as part of their research project on remarkable female figures this term.

New Resources
Here are our most recent purchases thanks to your contribution to the French Biligual Program.

Next Semester our Year 5 & 6 students will be reading ‘Le Petit Prince’ a beautiful and timeless French classic. We were able to purchase a book for all our students so they can each borrow a copy. Reading chapter books (oeuvres integrales) is part of the French program in all Year levels and we are very excited to be offering this first independent reading activity in line with our new programs. This is also a part of the high school French Bilingual Program of Whites Hill State College where students will continue their study of French literature.
Volunteers needed to cover our new books
We are looking for some volunteers to help with the covering of our new books. If you are available next week, even for an hour, please let us know via email: admin@tingalpass.eq.edu.au
The Annual arts showcase is being held next Wednesday 25 June. It is a great opportunity to experience what the college has to offer.
Le Festival
Le Festival will be held at Southbank from July 4 - 6 this year. Information about this year’s event and tickets are available on their website https://lefestival.com.au/
Luella Shines at State Basketball Championships
A huge congratulations to Luella C, who recently represented the Met East region at the State Basketball Championships from 12 – 15 June. Over four days of tough competition, Luella and her team played six games and won every one, securing the gold medal, the championship shield, and an impressive 1st place finish.
This outstanding result is a reflection of Luella’s dedication and hard work. For the past six weeks, she has been attending 5:00am Saturday training sessions while also managing her regular club and representative basketball commitments. Coached by Char Mellars, a former New Zealand Women’s Olympic Basketball player, Luella showed true determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship—qualities that make her an inspiration to our school community!

State Hockey Success for Troy
We’re thrilled to share that Troy K proudly represented Met East at the recent State Hockey Championships — and he had a fantastic tournament!
The team finished in 7th place overall, an impressive result considering they were one of the youngest teams competing. Troy played as a striker and made a big impact on the field, scoring two clutch goals during the tournament. His performance earned him a Player of the Match award.
Troy brought great energy, enthusiasm, and determination to every game. Well done Troy. We’re proud of your efforts and can’t wait to see what you achieve next!

5/6B were inspired by the Colour Fun Run last week so we played and explored the art element of ‘colour’. We spoke about colour mixing and blending and achieved blending using chalk pastels. What a fun way to finish the week!

1/2B have been reading picture books and creating “headlines” from the illustrations in the text. Headlines capture the core or heart of the matter, or in our case, we created headlines around illustrations from what we know from the story or can infer from the picture.
Below you will find some images of fun catchy headlines using the book “Where the Wild Things Are”.

Well done to all the children who participated in the fun run last Friday – what a fun and colourful event. Thanks to everyone who helped out on the day to make sure everyone had plenty of colour. A special thank you to Lisa Leclerc for all her hardwork behind the scenes.
Together we raised $33 905 – Fantastic effort everyone.

Did you know that we also raise money through Containers for Change? Next time you drop off your cans and bottles, scan this QR code and the funds will go to the P&C fundraising campaign.
Last year we raised approximately $1000, let’s see if we can do that again this year!
This segment will introduce you to our P&C executive, P&C members and our superstar volunteers. Each newsletter we will introduce you to a different person.
Name: Rowan Udell
Volunteer Role/s: Cooking Democracy Sausages on the BBQ most election days.
Why I decided to volunteer: I volunteer because I’m a fan of democracy in general and BBQing specifically! Since my kids don’t let me sleep in, I’m usually setting up the BBQ and getting the first few trays for sausages and onions ready for the punters.
Children at Tingalpa: Zach (Year 2), Gabe (Year 3), and Raph (Year 6)
When I’m not volunteering: I’m spending too much time on screens (for work), and trying to learn French.
Fun Fact: I’m a chess tragic – I’m not any good at it, but I still enjoy playing it.
