Thank a First Responder Day
Thank a First Responder Day is a day to show our gratitude and appreciation for the first responders in our community, for the work that they do to keep us safer. Many of us have needed the help of a first responder during an emergency at one stage or another. And all of us are aware of the honourable, selfless and challenging work first responders do for our communities.
Homes and farms saved from bushfire, loved ones taken to urgent medical help, those lost at sea rescued and reunited with family, and the resolution of countless other perilous situations, as we have experienced recently in our Tingalpa community during X-Tropical Cyclone Alfred and the flooding it caused.
We can all take the opportunity to send messages of thanks at the following site: https://fortemaustralia.org.au/tafrd-2/gratitude-gallery/.
Chappy Week 2025
This year, National Chaplaincy Week will be held 1 – 8 June 2025. This week Chappy Lynda has been running Scavenger Hunts for students during second break, seeing how well they can find things in their school environment.
Thank you to Chappy Lynda for all you do at Tingalpa State School for students, staff and families.

This fortnight the focus value is - Attitude and Effort
Kind regards,

Assembly Update – Class Presentations Moved Forward
We would like to inform families of a small but important change to the order of our weekly assembly.
From now on, class presentations and student awards will be brought forward and take place immediately after the following opening elements:
- Welcome to Country
- Australian and French National Anthems
- Jandai Language Acknowledgement
This change ensures our students are celebrated early in the program, allowing for greater focus and engagement.
Please adjust your arrival times accordingly so you don’t miss the opportunity to celebrate your child’s achievements.
Thank you for your continued support in recognising and celebrating student success!
Chappy Week Fun – Scavenger Hunt Adventures!
This week we celebrated Chappy Week with a school-wide favourite – the Chappy Scavenger Hunt!
Our wonderful Chappy was busy hiding secret items around the school, and it was up to our students to find them! Each day during second break, different year levels were given the mission to hunt for hidden treasures using clues and teamwork.
Here’s how the week unfolded:
- Wednesday: Prep – Year 1
- Thursday: Years 2 – 3
- Friday: Years 4, 5 and 6
The excitement was contagious as students searched high and low across the school grounds. It was a fantastic way to celebrate Chappy Week, build community spirit, and have a whole lot of fun along the way!
A big thank you to Chappy for organising such a creative and meaningful activity—and congratulations to all our keen-eyed scavenger hunters!

Warm Return from the Tingalpa Community
Thank you all so very much for your extremely warm welcome on my return to our beautiful school community. My journey has been challenging, but also filled with moments of reflection and perspective. I’m incredibly thankful for the support, kindness, and encouragement from so many of you throughout my time away — it truly made a difference.
As I return, I do so with renewed appreciation for the incredible work we do as educators and the strength of our school community. I’m looking forward to reconnecting with everyone, getting back into the rhythm of school life, and contributing once again to the learning and wellbeing of our students.
While I’m excited to be back, I’m also mindful that transitions take time. I appreciate your continued support and understanding as I ease back into the demands of school life. Please feel free to reach out — I’ve missed the camaraderie, conversations, and connection.

Lemonade KidsLast Wednesday 28 May, our Year 3 and 4 students participated in the Lemonade Kids program. The program helps children to foster a positive mindset by delivering uplifting, proactive and holistic wellbeing programs. Students participated in the ‘Embracing Me and You’ program which aims to support students develop their strength of empathy in embracing differences and diversity in the world. Furthermore, building upon respectful relationships towards themselves, their peers, family, friends and the wider community.
Throughout the session students worked through Standing Strong through a Strong Mind and Strong Heart. They learnt that ‘There is only ONE you in this world’ – Embracing Me and You means that we recognise all of our differences. This includes our personalities, interests, culture, physical, mental, emotional characteristics and how we like to express ourselves as human beings.
Students celebrated their differences by completing the giant heart group activity which celebrated individual qualities, characteristics and interests that makes students uniquely different to each other. They added their individual post-it notes to a giant heart which is now proudly hung in the office.

If you are interested in looking further into Lemonade Kids, please see below a poster with the upcoming winter school holiday programs.
Moderation
We are now at the time of the term where we complete our moderation process. We use this process to ensure that student assessments are consistent, and aligned with curriculum standards. Moderation involves teachers and the leadership team working together to review samples of student work, comparing them against marking guides and the assessed element of the achievement standard. This helps ensure that no matter who marks the work, the judgments made are accurate and consistent across classes and year levels. It also supports teacher development by encouraging in professional discussions about what quality learning looks like. It is always an exciting time as we celebrate the amazing work that students have produced throughout the term.

AAFEBS reading competition – Leve ta voix
Thursday 29 May saw the inter-school finals of the AAFEBS read-aloud competition entitled “Lève ta voix!”
Almost 70 classes from CP to Terminale signed up to share and promote the French language through texts chosen by the students from French-language literature.
Texts by Antoine de St Exupéry, Victor Hugo, Geoffroy de Pennart, Olympe de Gouges and others resonated in AAFEBS schools in Killarney Heights, Caulfield Junior College, Camberwell Primary School, Telopea Park School, Taren Point, Lycée Condorcet Sydney, Tingalpa State School and Lycée Le CLézio in Port-Vila.
It was a wonderful moment of reading and interpretation, with excerpts that touched us and made us laugh, and with attentive readers who were eager to enliven their reading with their voices, their eyes and their bodies.
Thanks to AAFEBS, which, thanks to its very existence, enables French/English bilingual schools to get to know each other and share experiences, notably at its annual congress.
A huge thank you and bravo to the teachers who helped their students prepare for this event.
Congratulations to Elya, Gabriel and Nina who were our school finalists. They did a fantastic job with the reading of their chosen passage.
Here are the winners of this amazing second edition!
Catégorie 1 - CP : Emile - Lycée Condorcet Sydney
Catégorie 2 - CE1/CE2 : Casimir - Caulfield Junior College Melbourne
Catégorie 3 - CM/6ème : Lily-Rose - Telopea Park School Canberra
Catégories 4&5 - Cycle 4/Lycée : Léandre - Telopea park School Canberra
Catégorie 6 - Flsco Primaire : Eveleigh - Lycée Condorcet Sydney
Each winner will receive two French-language books, courtesy of AAFEBS.
Well done to all and see you next year for a brilliant third edition.
Long live reading!
Prix du Civisme for Year 5 & Year 6 students
Last Monday, Mrs O’Keeffe and I attended the launch of the Prix du Civisme at Government House. The Prix du Civisme is an initiative from The Australian section of the French National Order of Merit (ANMONM) and applications are now open for students in Year 5 & 6 who learn French as a language in their school.
The aim of the Prix du Civisme is to encourage young people to undertake projects to assist others. These may be actions of personal courage, projects and actions to benefit the wider community including both in Australia and abroad, projects and actions designed to protect the environment and wildlife, or reduce pollution or waste and emissions, and projects aimed at helping the disadvantaged in our communities reflecting the values of ‘liberty, equality and fraternity’.
Winners (or in the case of a class, its representative) will receive a return economy airfare to Sydney for the awards ceremony to be held in November, together with one night’s accommodation including for an accompanying parent or adult.
Parents and carers with students in Year 5 & 6 will be receiving an email with information about this very exciting opportunity for our students.
We look forward to receiving applications from our students!

We have raised $23 021 so far.

Did you know that we also raise money through Containers for Change? Next time you drop off your cans and bottles, scan this QR code and the funds will go to the P&C fundraising campaign.
Last year we raised approximately $1000, let’s see if we can do that again this year!
This new segment will introduce you to our P&C executive, P&C members and our superstar volunteers. Each newsletter we will introduce you to a different person.
This week is our P&C secretary: Dan Jackson
Name: Dan Jackson
P & C Role: Secretary
Why I joined the P & C: I love my children and home life more than anything in the world, but if I am being honest, it’s a great excuse to get out of cleaning up the kitchen after dinner twice a term! Plus getting to join the meetings with the great teachers and parents is always enjoyable. It’s fun to do something for the school!
Children at Tingalpa: My sons are in Year 4 and 2, in the French Bilingual Program.
When I’m not at P&C meetings: I work at a software company in the Valley. On my work-from-home days I try to play as much handball in the mornings with my boys during drop-offs as possible.
Fun Fact: Actually, there are very few facts about me that aren’t fun ? I like to drink Iced Long Blacks before work in the morning (even in winter), and watch junky reality TV at night.
Want to get involved?? Contact secretary@tingalpasspandc.com.au
Next P&C meeting – new members are welcome!
