HEAD OF DEPARTMENT - CURRICULUM - Elise Debenham

Elise.jpgLemonade Kids

Last Wednesday 28 May, our Year 3 and 4 students participated in the Lemonade Kids program.  The program helps children to foster a positive mindset by delivering uplifting, proactive and holistic wellbeing programs.  Students participated in the ‘Embracing Me and You’ program which aims to support students develop their strength of empathy in embracing differences and diversity in the world. Furthermore, building upon respectful relationships towards themselves, their peers, family, friends and the wider community.

Throughout the session students worked through Standing Strong through a Strong Mind and Strong Heart.  They learnt that ‘There is only ONE you in this world’ – Embracing Me and You means that we recognise all of our differences.  This includes our personalities, interests, culture, physical, mental, emotional characteristics and how we like to express ourselves as human beings.

Students celebrated their differences by completing the giant heart group activity which celebrated individual qualities, characteristics and interests that makes students uniquely different to each other. They added their individual post-it notes to a giant heart which is now proudly hung in the office.

Moderation

We are now at the time of the term where we complete our moderation process.  We use this process to ensure that student assessments are consistent, and aligned with curriculum standards. Moderation involves teachers and the leadership team working together to review samples of student work, comparing them against marking guides and the assessed element of the achievement standard. This helps ensure that no matter who marks the work, the judgments made are accurate and consistent across classes and year levels. It also supports teacher development by encouraging in professional discussions about what quality learning looks like. It is always an exciting time as we celebrate the amazing work that students have produced throughout the term.
