Warm Return from the Tingalpa Community

Thank you all so very much for your extremely warm welcome on my return to our beautiful school community. My journey has been challenging, but also filled with moments of reflection and perspective. I’m incredibly thankful for the support, kindness, and encouragement from so many of you throughout my time away — it truly made a difference.

As I return, I do so with renewed appreciation for the incredible work we do as educators and the strength of our school community. I’m looking forward to reconnecting with everyone, getting back into the rhythm of school life, and contributing once again to the learning and wellbeing of our students.

While I’m excited to be back, I’m also mindful that transitions take time. I appreciate your continued support and understanding as I ease back into the demands of school life. Please feel free to reach out — I’ve missed the camaraderie, conversations, and connection.

Mathematical Modelling
Mathematical modelling was discussed in our newsletter last term. It is an important component of the Australian Curriculum that emphasises a key process for students to engage with real-world problems using mathematical tools.
It includes:
  • Formulating a problem mathematically
  • Applying mathematical techniques
  • Interpreting and validating results
  • Communicating findings clearly
It is also supported by the Mathematical Processes, which includes:
  • Problem-solving
  • Reasoning
  • Communicating
  • Connecting
The Australian Curriculum implicitly follows a modelling cycle such as:
  1. Understand - What is being asked? What do we know? What do we need to find out?
  2. Plan - What information can be left out? What am I going to do to solve the problem?
  3. Do - Apply mathematical thinking to solve the problem
  4. Consider – Does the solution make sense? Are there other ways to solve the problem?
  5. Communicate – Present reasoning and conclusions
Throughout classrooms, teachers are modelling and guiding student learning with mathematical modelling through:
  • Open-ended investigations
  • Use of real-life data (ABS statistics, local environmental data, etc.)
  • Integration of technology (spreadsheet software, graphing tools)
  • Collaboration and communication in teams

Prep 2026

Enrol now for Prep in 2026. Come along to our Get Set for Prep afternoon.

If you have a child due to begin Prep next year or know of someone who does, we have an exciting opportunity to visit our Prep classrooms on Friday 20 June, 2:00 – 2:45pm.

For all our in-catchment families seeking entry into our English Program you will have the opportunity to collect an enrolment pack at the office on this day. You will need to bring 2 forms of residency proof (rates or tenancy agreement and a utility invoice) and your child’s original Birth Certificate.

For families seeking entry into our French Bilingual Program, places will begin to be offered from early Term 3. This invite is not an acknowledgement of acceptance.

For families out-of-catchment with no siblings at Tingalpa State School, offers will be made in Term 4 if we have availability.

Please note parking can be tricky, we recommend parking across the road at Kianawah Park and walking across the pedestrian crossing.  Please do not park at Twin Parks shopping village.

The afternoon will finish up with the children having the opportunity to purchase a water Ice block for $1, this is a senior fundraising activity, raising funds for graduation.

We look forward to welcoming you and your Prep child on this date.
