Happy Holidays
As we near the end of Term 3 I would like to thank everyone for their work during the term. I would like to wish everyone a safe and relaxing school holidays.
Please note: Monday 6 October 2025 is a public holiday, the King’s Birthday long weekend. The first day of Term 4 is Tuesday 7 October 2025.
Equity and Excellence
Moderation - across this week year level teachers have met with the Leadership Team to moderate Term 3 English, French and mathematics assessments. The specialist and support teachers have also been part of moderation to review assessments in science, music, HPE, languages, media arts and ICPs. Our moderation process aligns curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and reporting. I always look forward to moderation sessions as they are also a celebration of the learning that has occurred over the term.
Parent/Teacher Interviews
Parent/Teacher Interviews will take place on Tuesday 16 September between 3:15pm and 8:00pm. An email will be sent soon with details for booking interviews. If you are unable to book an interview at this time, please contact your class teacher for alternative arrangements.
Parent/Teacher interviews provide a great opportunity to get to know your child’s teacher and to hear important updates on academic and social/emotional information about your child. It also demonstrates to our students the important partnership parents and teachers share in the education of children.
School Assembly – Student Awards
There is no assembly in Week 10 due to Parent/Teacher interviews.
Book Week Celebrations
Our students enjoyed showing their costumes at our special assembly. I love the creativity of our families with amazing costume creations.

Thursday 11 September is R U OK? Day but we know that whether it is a friend, family member, partner, or colleague , the people around us go through life’s ups and downs every day. That is why we want everyone to feel confident to check in with the people they care about and Ask R U OK? Wishing our families a safe and restful Term 3 holiday.

Thank you for your ongoing support throughout the term. We look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for another great term of learning and growth.
Mathematical Problem-Solving with Michael Minas
Last Thursday, we were excited to welcome Michael Minas to Tingalpa, where he delivered engaging mathematical problem-solving lessons to several classes. This was a fantastic opportunity for both students and staff to experience problem-solving in action, with a focus on deep thinking and rich discussions.
This visit forms part of our ongoing investment in the implementation of the new Mathematics curriculum. On Friday, we extended this learning by hosting staff from Wynnum West State School for a full day of professional development. Together, we explored how to design and structure effective problem-solving lessons and how to integrate them meaningfully into our teaching practices.
A big thank you to the classes that hosted Michael Minas and to all staff for their continued commitment to extending their knowledge and skills. It was an inspiring two days of learning and collaboration, reinforcing our dedication to delivering high-quality mathematics education across our school community.

Rebecca Sparrow Visit
On Monday 1 and Wednesday 3 September, our Year 5/6 students were treated to a special visit from Australian author and speaker Rebecca Sparrow, who shared her invaluable wisdom on building and maintaining healthy friendships. Her approachable style and real-world advice made an instant impact on our students.
Rebecca guided students through two of the most common friendship questions she receives:
- How do I know if my friends really like me?
- How do I make more friends?
To explore these questions, Rebecca introduced students to Dr. Brené Brown’s “Anatomy of Trust”, using the acronym BRAVING as a foundation for understanding trust in friendships. Each letter in BRAVING represents a quality that helps build trust for good friendships:
- Boundaries
- Reliability
- Accountability
- Vault (confidentiality)
- Integrity
- Non-judgment
- Generosity
Rebecca broke down each concept in a way that was engaging and age-appropriate, helping students reflect on their own friendships and how they show up as a friend.
Key Messages from Rebecca’s Talk
- Friendships grow stronger in small moments - Rebecca compared these to bricks in a wall. Each small, kind action adds to the strength of a friendship.
- Follow up - Remember what your friends tell you and ask them about it later. This shows you have listened to their concerns or conversation, and you care.
- Be FRIENDLY with everyone - but understand that your close group of friends will be smaller and more meaningful.
- Friendships take work - like anything worth having, they require effort, empathy, and honesty.
- Don’t put all your eggs in one friendship basket - it is important to have more than one friend and avoid becoming overly reliant on one person.
- When faced with annoying behaviour from a friend, students were encouraged to consider two options: speak to the person or let it go.
Rebecca’s Top 3 Tips for Navigating Friendships
- Conflict is normal, drama is a choice.
- Boundaries are everything.
- Drama cyclones are exhausting, and gossip is a red flag.
Rebecca left our students with a final reminder that will stick with them: "Glide towards people who are your friends and swerve around others, while still being friendly."
We are incredibly grateful to Rebecca for her time, warmth, and wisdom. Her visit provided our students with practical tools and a deeper understanding of what it means to be a great friend.
A very big Thank you to Di from Moreton Bay Environmental Education Centre for providing this opportunity for our Year 5/6 students and staff.

Met East Track & Field Championships
Arana and Adalynn shine at Met East Track & Field.
A big congratulations to Arana M and Adalynn C, who proudly represented our school at the Metropolitan East Track and Field Championships on Thursday 28 August, held at the Queensland Sport and Athletics Centre (QSAC).
This is a fantastic achievement, and both students should be very proud of themselves!
Arana competed in the 11 Years Boys 100m Sprint, running against some of the fastest boys in the region. He gave it his all and showed great determination from start to finish.
Adalynn competed in the 10 Years Girls High Jump, jumping with focus and confidence. She did an amazing job and represented our school with pride.
Well done Arana and Adalynn!

Name: Sophie Fontana
Volunteer Role: Family Movie Night Coordinator
Why I decided to volunteer: I originally joined so I could find out what’s going on at the school – it’s a great way to stay in the loop. Now, I like doing Family Movie Night because I know how much fun everyone has.
Children at Tingalpa: Xavier (Year 5) and Sebastian (Year 3)
When I’m not voluntary: I’m working, juggling life and catching up with friends.
Fun Fact:
As a child, I loved the beach and could play in the sand for hours….now the thought of going to the beach and touching sand makes me cringe.
