I emailed the community yesterday to inform everyone that members of the Queensland Teachers’ Union (QTU) have advised the Department of Education of their intention to participate in a 24-hour stop work action on Wednesday, 6 August 2025. This email outlined how the school will support students on this day.

School Opinion Survey

The annual suite of School Opinion Surveys is conducted in Term 3 and will close on 22 August 2025. All families, school staff and students in target year levels (5, 6, 8 and 11) will be invited to participate. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well, and how we can improve.

An invitation to complete the Parent/Caregiver Survey has been emailed to one parent/caregiver per family between the 21 July – 25 July.  The invitation was sent from the Department of Education, not the school, and it will have the subject line School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2025. The survey can be completed as soon as the invitation is received and will take approximately 5 minutes using a computer, tablet or smart phone.

Parents/caregivers who do not have access to the internet at home are welcome to complete their survey online at the school. School computers/tablets will be available.

1:1 Device Program 2026

I wanted to share that we are close to sending out the community survey for the 1:1 Device Program for 2026. We have been collating additional information to ensure we provide answers to questions parents asked at the consultation meeting last term. This requires discussions with various sections of the Education department which can take time so we can provide the most accurate information possible.

Bastille Day Breakfast

I would like to thank the Tingalpa State School P&C and particularly Camille Dusolle for the organisation and running of the Bastille Day Breakfast. It was a wonderful morning, not even the few sprinkles of rain could dampen the enjoyment of the morning. Congratulations to Ronin and Ava for winning the costume competition. I would also like to thank our special guests Joan Pease MP and Cr. Lisa Atwood. Thank you Cr. Atwood for providing our costume competition prizes. It was great to see students, staff and community members get into the spirit of red, white and blue costumes.

Pick-up Zone

Students who are collected at the end of the day in the pick-up zone are now required to wait on the new deck area of the new playground. This has been working well as students can see their parents/carers from this higher vantage point.

Road Safety for Our School Community

The safety of our students, staff and community members is of the utmost importance to us. It takes actions from all of us to keep ourselves and everyone else safe.

It is important that we all model safety practices for our children/students, so they learn appropriate safety actions.

When arriving or leaving the school on foot, please use the allocated gates and walkways. The school driveway to the drop-off/pick-up zone is for cars only, this area is pedestrian free, at all times. Children are not to be in the top carpark without an adult, this is not an alternate drop-off or pick-up zone.

School entry points:

  • Wynnum Road gate and walkway past the school hall.
  • Tenbar Street gate and walkway past the Cre8 Centre and admin building.
  • Traben Street gate at the back oval and walking across the oval to the gate leading to the upper oval.

We also ask that parents/carers who drive their children to school and use the drop-off and pick-up zone or top carpark, please observe the speed limits set for these areas. Although these areas are out-of-bounds to students, as we all know, children can be unpredictable and are not always fully observant of traffic. The correct speed gives drivers time to respond to unexpected events and increase the safety for everyone on the school grounds.

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data - NCCD

In August every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005.

How does the NCCD assist schools?

The NCCD prompts schools to identify students with disability and to review their processes and practices. It records the adjustments already undertaken in schools to support students with disability to access and participate in education on the same basis as their peers.

  • Reviewing learning and support systems: The NCCD allows schools to better understand the functional needs of their students with disability. It captures the work of schools in providing personalised learning and support for students with disability who require adjustments due to the functional impact of their disability.
  • Providing greater understanding: The NCCD helps schools gain a greater understanding of their students with disability and identify areas of support for both students and staff.
  • Developing professional judgement: The professional learning available to support the NCCD process helps build the professional judgement of school teams who are required to provide educational adjustments for students with disability without relying on a medical or clinical diagnosis alone.
  • Recognising support and adjustments provided: The NCCD helps to formally and consistently recognise the support and adjustments provided to students with disability as defined in the DDA.
