Digital Learning
The Department of Education (DoE) has been providing a range of resources to assist schools on maturing their digital learning journey.
How we learn, work and communicate continues to evolve. Digital tools, resources and environments connect students and teachers with a global ecosystem. Students are supported to engage in personalised learning in a safe, ethical and responsible way.
Please see further information in the attached document on the direction of digital learning in DoE. Equity and Excellence in action:
Digital innovation in teaching and learning
Tingalpa State School’s whole school approach to digital learning embraces purposeful and intentional digital learning to prepare every learner for success in a digitally enabled world. As we continue our digital learning journey, guided by the Department of Education’s plan for digital innovation and the Australian Curriculum (v9), we are building students’ digital literacy—safe, ethical and responsible use; investigating and creating with technology; and collaborating effectively—while keeping a strong focus on wellbeing and balance. Technology won’t replace great teaching or writing in books; it enhances learning through targeted tools, clear learning intentions and age-appropriate use.
Across this semester, teachers have participated in professional learning on effective use of digital learning tools to enhance learning experiences. They will be participating in year level training over the final part of Term 4, developing the integration of age-appropriate digital learning within our units of learning. The focus of this is to prepare every student for success in a digitally enabled world by creating engaging, safe, ethical and responsible digital learning opportunities. This work is in preparation of the 2026 1:1 iPad program commencing with Years 3 – 4 (and moving with cohorts over subsequent years).
Next year, we will continue our digital learning across the school community. Teachers and Learning Assistants will continue to have professional development opportunities with digital literacies and learning. We will also be providing practical information sessions and guidance for families, so you can build an understanding of the progress of digital learning in the school environment as well as supporting families with digital habits at home.
Together, we are preparing students to be confident, creative and critical digital citizens—ready for their schooling life and the future beyond.
Spring Soiree
The Spring Soiree was well attended by families and was enjoyed by students, family and staff. Thank you to Katie for organising the food trucks on behalf of the P&C. The dances and music performances were fantastic. Classrooms celebrations of learnings were buzzing with energy. Thank you to our school community for your support and engagement in this event.
State Education Week 2025
State Education Week in Queensland will be held from Monday 27 October to Friday 31 October 2025. This annual event celebrates Queensland state schools and public education, providing an opportunity to highlight the work done in schools and for students to fulfill their potential. It takes an entire school staff and community, working together, to ensure a school runs well at all levels and I feel privileged to be able to work with the staff and school community of Tingalpa State School. I would like to take this time to recognise our professional staff who are dedicated to offering a rigorous quality education allowing our students to achieve success.
In 2025, World Teachers' Day (WTD) will be held on 31 October with the theme 'Celebrating teachers'.
World Teachers' Day is a wonderful opportunity to recognise and applaud Queensland teachers for their important role in our communities and for the positive impact they have on the lives of students.
Let’s join together to thank all Queensland Teachers on World Teachers’ Day, Friday 31 October 2025.
The P and C has generously offered to provide lunch to celebrate World Teacher’s Day. This lunch is for all staff to recognise the work they do for our students and community on Friday 31 October. Feel free to send along positive notes to teachers on this day to celebrate their support and dedication to all our students.
Classes for 2026
We are beginning to make plans for 2026 classes. If you are not intending on returning to Tingalpa State School next year can you please advise Admin via email on admin@tingalpass.eq.edu.au.
School resumes on Tuesday 27 January 2026 for all children from Prep to Year 6.
All state schools are staffed on the Day 8 Enrolment Data Collection at the start of the school year. Whether we form straight classes or multi-age classes is dependent on enrolment numbers on Day 8 – 5 February 2026. Parents are reminded that class composition, teacher year level allocations and class placements are all subject to adjustment post Day 8.
For audit purposes, it is vital we have correct enrolment numbers at the commencement of the 2026 school year. If you will be returning later than the school start date, please also indicate your intended date of return and reason such as visiting family overseas. You will be requested to complete an acceptable evidence form, please email Admin on the email address above for a copy of this form.
Please note that classes and teachers can change depending on enrolment numbers.
The leadership team, class teachers and support staff work together to place students in classes for the following year. Staff have deep knowledge of students, their needs and which students they should or should not be placed with. The aim is to construct well-balanced classes in which students can work and perform to their full potential. Due consideration is given to the student’s academic needs and their social/emotional needs when placement is decided. Your trust in our decision-making, your acknowledgement of the time and care that goes into this process and your respect for the competence and dedication of every member of our staff team are greatly appreciated.
Should parents wish to share additional details about their child, in regard to class placement, they are asked to email their ‘request for consideration’ to Mel Loban, Deputy Principal at mpeac9@eq.edu.au.
Requests are always considered but not guaranteed. Please note we will not take requests for particular teachers. A new class and a new teacher are opportunities for children to make new friends and to have new learning experiences.
Requests should outline your child’s learning needs and the considerations that you believe would assist your child to be successful at school in 2026. Requests will not be considered after 25 October 2025.
‘Meet the Teacher Afternoon’ will be held on Monday 8 December 2025, students are placed into their new class group and meet their 2026 teacher, if they are currently working at Tingalpa State School.

Math Mastermind Competition
Last Friday, 17 October, some of our young mathematicians came together for the annual Math Mastermind Competition. It was a day full of puzzles, problem-solving, teamwork, and plenty of excitement!
Schools from across the area joined in, including Wynnum West, Manly, Wondall Heights, Whites Hill, Lota, and Seven Hills. The competition was fierce but friendly, as teams tackled a range of challenging math rounds, from tricky number puzzles and team problem-solving events to relays and a creative mathematical modelling challenge that really got everyone thinking outside the box.
The atmosphere buzzed with energy as students collaborated, strategised, and cheered each other on. It was fantastic to see so many bright ideas, quick calculations, and smiles all around!
A huge Congratulations to our winning teams:
1st Place – Wynnum West State School
2nd Place – Manly State School
3rd Place – Tingalpa State School
A big well done to all participants for showing great teamwork, enthusiasm, and mathematical talent. We cannot wait to see what next year’s Math Mastermind brings.
Today, our excited Year 2 students stepped back in time with a visit to Newstead House, Brisbane’s oldest surviving residence. The excursion was part of the “Connect with Heritage” program, where students became history detectives for the day, exploring what life was like in the 1800s and discovering how our community has changed over time.
The day began with a stroll through the beautiful Newstead Park grounds, where students compared maps and discussed how the area has transformed since Brisbane’s early days. They then enjoyed a hands-on session called “Washday Wonders”, learning how families once did their washing using old-fashioned equipment, no electricity required!
Students explored fascinating artefacts from the past, discovering how everyday objects and technology have changed. They also took part in “Step Back in Time,” learning about manners and etiquette expected of children long ago. After lunch, the fun continued with colonial games on the green and a sensory activity exploring the plants and their uses in early Brisbane gardens.
The highlight for many was the guided tour of Newstead House, where students compared the rooms and furniture to their own homes and imagined what it might have been like to live there over 150 years ago.
It was a fantastic day of curiosity, learning, and laughter and our Year 2 students returned to school with a newfound appreciation for Brisbane’s history and heritage.

Art in Prep B
Our little artists in Prep B have been learning about famous artists and their techniques. Over the past Semester, they have looked at the following artists:
- Wassily Kandinsky who is well known for his abstract paintings using shapes, lines and colours.
- Vincent Van Gogh who is known for his beauty, emotion and colour throughout his art.
- Pablo Picasso for his cubism movement, a revolutionary style of modern art in response to the rapidly changing modern world.
As you can see in their photos below, we have some budding artists who have done an incredible job with their art pieces.
