New French program – curriculum

Presented to the Conseil supérieur de l’éducation in June 2024, the new French and mathematics programs for cycle 2 (CP, CE1 and CE2) were published in the Official Journal of October 25, 2024 and will come into effect at the start of the 2025 school year in France. New programs for cycle 3 (CM1, CM2 and 6e) will also come into effect at the start of the 2025 school year in France.

Last week, the French bilingual teachers and myself got together during a staff meeting to learn about the changes put in place in the new programs. Over the coming terms, we will continue to explore the French programs and prepare for implementation at the start of our 2026 school year.

AAFEBS reading competition – Leve ta voix

This Thursday and Friday, we are running our in-school reading sessions to choose the finalists for each category. Finalists will be joining other AAFEBS schools for the finals which will take place on Thursday 29 May at 9:30am (Canberra time) by video conference. Communication will be sent to the families of the finalists in the coming week.

I would like to particularly thank Madame Jourde who has made our participation in this contest possible. From her liaison with the organisers, contact with families and teachers, the running of additional reading practices during lunchtimes and her help in the selection of finalists, she has made it all possible.

I also would like to thank Miss Cruchon, Miss Valette and Madame Danne for their support and help with reading practices and selection of finalists.

Meeting with Anne Genetet

On Thursday 24 April, I had the privilege of meeting Anne Genetet, Member of Parliament for French citizens abroad (11th constituency) and former Minister of Education, during her visit to Brisbane. This meeting, facilitated by the The Honorary Consul of France in Brisbane, Alain Etchegaray, was part of her meeting with French associations in Brisbane and provided a fantastic opportunity to share about our French Bilingual Program and its expansion into Whites Hill State College. Madame Genetet was very inquisitive and impressed by the progression of the program in recent years.

French Theatre

The Brisbane French Theatre has a new play coming this winter!

“Big news—Brisbane French Theatre is making its long-awaited return!

Mark your calendars for 19, 20, and 21 June 2025 for a full-scale theatre production performed entirely in French, with English subtitles projected above the stage: Du foie gras sous le sapin (“Eat your heart out”)

It’s been nearly three years since our last big show, and we’re beyond excited to bring you an unforgettable night of French theatre.”
