HEAD OF DEPARTMENT - French Bilingual Program - Emma Van Cuylenberg
On Wednesday 19 March, 80 Year 4 - 6 students from the French Bilingual Program made their way to the French Film Festival. Students enjoyed the outing to the Palace St James where we watched the film ‘Sauvages’ from Claude Barras. ‘Sauvages’ was a film nominated at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival which touched on the topic of deforestation and its impact on local populations in Borneo. The movie touched on a range of issues and topics related to biodiversity, sustainable food production as well as the local population’s belief in forest guardians.
AAFEBS ‘Leve ta voix’ competition
This year we again have the opportunity to participate in the ‘Leve ta voix’ competition organised across the AAFEBS’ schools' network. Some of our middle and upper-year level classes have already signed up to participate. ‘Leve ta voix’ is a reading aloud competition during which students are invited to select an excerpt from a book written by a French author. They will then practice reading aloud using intonation, voice and expression. In Term Two, we will select a candidate from each year level, to move onto the AAFEBS final which is held online. It is a fantastic opportunity for our students to practice reading aloud and to be part of a national French-bilingual schools’ event.
Classroom displays
3/4E and 4C made some Gallo-roman jars as part of their French History theme.

Learning and word wall on ‘Les Gaulois’. The learning walls can include exemplars of what is expected as well as word walls which students can use as tools to help with their writing.

New resources
Thanks to your generous Voluntary Contributions we have been able to purchase a set of Chatterboards for our Prep class. These boards will be used during our rotation activities to help students learn new vocabulary and further develop their language skills.
